Do I need to stay with my car?

You do not need to stay with your car, you can drop your car off and come back to collect or you can wait and watch your MOT test being carried out. If we need you we will be in touch.

Can I watch my MOT vehicle inspection?

You can watch your MOT vehicle inspection, we have a dedicated waiting area where you can watch your MOT vehicle inspection being carried out.

What happens if my car fails the MOT test?

Should your car fail it’s MOT, you will be issued with a VT30 Certificate stating the items that have failed the MOT test. We will make sure that it is clear to you what rectification is required for a pass to be issued. We offer a free retest once the car has had the necessary repairs carried out. Remember a car that does not have a current MOT certificate is not allowed to be used on the road except when going for repairs for an MOT test, or to a prearranged MOT test.

Do I get a notification when my MOT test is due?

We do our best to remind you through our booking process however we cannot always guarantee if you will receive our message. It is your responsibility to ensure you set up a reminder and it’s good practice. Most Road Tax due dates and MOT dates coincide to make things easier.

How long does an MOT take?

An MOT test approximately takes 45 minutes, this can be variable and does not include any work or repairs, that may need to be completed.

What happens if I lose my MOT certificate?

You can obtain another MOT certificate from ourselves. Just come back to us, if you know the approximate date of the test it’s best to tell us. We should be able to give you a duplicate certificate. The Fee is £10.00.

How Regularly does an MOT test need doing?

At least once a year your vehicle should be examined at an authorized MOT test station to make sure your vehicle complies with certain important requirements of the law. You may however MOT your car at anytime and as many times as needed throughout the year i.e. if you are selling or part exchanging your vehicle, it’s best practice to have a 12 Months MOT.

What is an MOT?

The Ministry of Transport commonly known at the MOT Scheme, is primarily a road safety measure for cars, motorcycles and light goods that are more than 3 years old. It ensures they are properly maintained.

My MOT has expired - can I still drive my car?

The only time you are permitted to drive once the MOT is expired is when driving to a prebooked MOT test, or the repair centre for repairs to get through the MOT.
If you do this, please provide us with your registration number when making your test appointment so that, if you are pulled over, we can confirm that you were definitely on your way to us.

How can I make sure my car passes its MOT?

Some of the most common MOT failures are small and preventable such as:

  • Windscreen – is the drivers windscreen damaged and check all wipers working
  • Lights – are all lights fully working
  • Tyres – check tyre pressure and tread depth

Before you have your MOT you should carry out a few simple checks before you bring your car into our depot, this could save you time and money if you have to have a retest.
