The Most Popular Car Body Styles Explained
Getting a car can seem simple at first glance. After all, the only major decisions you have to make are which colour body paint you want and how many doors you want, right? Here at V12 Sports and Classics, we understand how daunting it can be when the dealer starts spouting off words like ‘sedan’ and ‘MPV’, which is why we are going to use this article in order to educate our readers so that they can choose the right body style for their needs and requirements…
Also known as a ‘saloon’, the sedan is a passenger type of car with a bonnet that covers the engine and a boot at the rear in order to provide extra storage. It is an incredibly popular body style and is able to seat at least four passengers. Here at V12, we have a large selection of Volkswagen and BMW models that come with a saloon body style.
As the smallest body style in this blog, the hatchback is known for being compact which is why they are favourable with newly qualified drivers. It has a characteristically smaller boot with enough space for two small suitcases and can seat four passengers. Here at V12, we have almost 400 hatchback models available, including a range of used Vauxhall, Citroen and Peugeot cars.
Often thought of as the ‘sporty saloon’ body style, the coupe tends to reduce the number of doors from four to two. With this said, new models like the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class have introduced four-door coupes into circulation. With a focus on speed and design, the V12 collection includes a variety of Audi and Mercedes-Benz coupe models.
As perhaps the most stylish of body styles, the convertible is characterised by its retractable roof design made from vinyl, plastic, aluminium or steel. They are often a two-door car due to the limited space that is available and the storage space in the boot is often extremely limited or doesn’t exist. At V12, we have three convertible models available; a BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 series and a Mercedes-Benz E Class.
Here at V12 Sports and Classics, our range of used cars come in a variety of different body styles. From the hatch batch to the convertible, we try our best in order to cater to the individual needs of every driver in order to ensure that the body of their vehicle is suitable for them.
